Andrew Dawson (born March 12, 1980 in Los Angeles, California) is an American record producer, engineer, mixer, and composer. Dawson has won three Grammy Awards and has been nominated for six Grammy Awards for his roles as an engineer and mixer on Kanye West’s Late Registration (2005), Graduation (2007), and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010). The work won the Best Rap Album category. Dawson was also credited with additional production on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. [3] Although Dawson made his first advancements with hip-hop artists such as Kanye West, Jay-Z, Common, Tyler The Creator, and POS, Dawson also ventured into record production and editing for pop, indie, and rock bands, including fun., The Rolling Stones, The Pet Shop Boys, Sleigh Bells, Baskeley, and The Night Terror of 1927.
Dawson began playing the piano at the age of 5 and studied jazz and classical piano at a private music academy at the age of 16. During his last years of high school, Dawson completed an internship at a recording studio in Minneapolis, mixing music for outdoor concerts during the summer.
Dawson then attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, to study music production and engineering. While living in the Boston area, Dawson worked at Lexicon, a company known for manufacturing digital reverb units, including the 480L. In 2001, Dawson moved to New York City, where he worked as an assistant and then as a plant engineer at Sony Music Studios. Due to his passion for music, Dawson prefers to work on important projects and collaborate with artists who are equally passionate about recording.
